Facts on the AnimalEdit
True flies are insects of the order Diptera (from the Greek di = two, and ptera = wings). The most obvious distinction from other orders of insects is that a typical fly possesses a pair of flight wings on the mesothorax and a pair of halteres, derived from the hind wings, on the metathorax. (Some species of flies are exceptional in that they are secondarily flightless). The only other order of insects bearing two true, functional wings plus any form of halteres are the Strepsiptera, and in contrast to the flies, the Strepsiptera bear their halteres on the mesothorax and their flight wings on the metathorax.
The Fly was acquired in The Capture. They acquire flies because they discover that the Yeerks have infested an entire hospital staff and are using them to turn patients into Controllers. Not only that, but next week their state's governor – who is a Presidential candidate – will be checking in for surgery. In order to infiltrate the hospital, the Animorphs acquire flies. They describe the Morphing process to be quite gross. Later in The Warning, Tobias needs a fly morph. This is done quickly, to find out what is up with Web Access America. In The First Journey and The Next Passage, You get a fly morph.
UsageEditAnimorphs. It is mainly a spy morph. The animorphs find the morphing process for the fly is quite disturbing. Although, they use this morph often. The morph is easy to control and almost fun. In The First Journey, if You use the fly morph, you die. In The Next Passage, there is a possibility you become a fly Nothlit.
