This article is written from a Real World point of view.
"I want to be sure, daughter of Prince Seerow, that you realize you have only one function to perform. As soon as you show us the location of the weapons your Ixcila will be returned to storage. You are dead, Aldrea-Iskillion-Falan. When you have performed this one duty, this illusion of life will be ended and Cassie will be Cassie alone."

The Prophecy, published in September 1999 and written by Melinda Metz based on an outline by K.A. Applegate, is the thirty-fourth book in the Animorphs series. It is the tenth book narrated by Cassie and the second narrated by Aldrea-Iskillion-Falan.

Official DescriptionEdit

Hork-Bajir

Inside cover

There is a chance for the free Hork-Bajir on Earth to start their own rebellion against the Yeerks. They have the numbers, but they don't have the weapons. And they've learned from the last surviving Arn -- the race that created the Hork-Bajir -- that Aldrea, daughter of Prince Seerow, knew the location of a stolen Yeerk vessel.

Unfortunately, the only way to recover the ship is to ask Aldrea herself -- and she's dead. But the Arn has Aldrea's persona stored. And Cassie, Rachel, or Toby Hamee are the closest match. The only problem is that once Aldrea gets into one of their minds, she may not want to come out...

Major/Highlighted EventsEdit

  • It is revealed that Tobias at some point shared the story of Aldrea-Iskillion-Falan and Dak Hamee, which Jara Hamee told him in The Hork-Bajir Chronicles, with the other Animorphs, including Ax.
  • An Arn named Quafijinivon steals a Yeerk ship and arrives to Earth, landing at the Hork-Bajir Valley after having intercepted a Yeerk transmission about a free Hork-Bajir colony on Earth.
    • Quafijinivon explains that he is dying and that he wishes to use the DNA of the free Hork-Bajir to create a clone army on the Hork-Bajir homeworld, so that another generation of free Hork-Bajir can reclaim their world from the Yeerks.
  • Quafijinivon reveals that he possesses the Ixcila – the personality, memories and essence – of Aldrea-Iskillion-Falan, and that he wishes to have one of the females (ideally Toby or Rachel) house Aldrea's spirit so that she may lead him to a stolen Yeerk weapons stash she hid on the homeworld prior to her death.
  • Aldrea's spirit is resurrected and she chooses Cassie as her host.
  • The Animorphs and Toby visit the Hork-Bajir homeworld for the first time.
  • Cassie demorphs from osprey to human while maintaining her osprey wings, which she intentionally expands to support her human weight. She then morphs to humpback whale while not only retaining the wings but having the wings grow in proportion.
    • While going from one morph to another without demorphing is said to be impossible, Rachel was able to do so in The Reaction, proving that while it is not something the average morpher can accomplish, it is not impossible. Aldrea herself attests that it is impossible until she witnesses Cassie perform the feat, citing that Cassie's morphing talents would make her a hero among Andalite society.
  • After successfully finding the weapons cache, Toby decides to stay behind on her ancestral homeworld, prompting Aldrea to ask Cassie and Ax to help her create a ruse. Pretending to take over Cassie's body, she has Ax threaten to kill Toby if she does not relinquish control, with Ax bringing Toby back to Earth as a 'hostage'.
  • Jake and Cassie's relationship is touched upon, with Cassie doodling "Cassie loves Jake" on a school test. Cassie later remarks that she and Jake have kissed many times since The Attack, and that despite never declaring their love verbally, she is aware that Jake loves her and that he knows she loves him back. While housing Aldrea's Ixcila, Aldrea realizes that Cassie cares for Jake the way she cared for Dak, referring to Jake as Cassie's boyfriend.
  • Marco mentions Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace which released in the United States on May 19, 1999. This would mean that the series is currently taking place in late May of 1999 at the earliest.

TriviaEdit

  • The cover quote is, "What you don't know can't hurt you. Except for the Yeerks...."
  • The inside cover quote is, "Cassie's definitely up a tree...."
  • This book marks the fourth instance of the Animorphs leaving Earth.
  • This marks the third time that the Chee pose for the Animorphs while they are on a mission.
  • ANIBASE: Along with cut outs from magazines to represent her characters, K.A. Applegate also sent crude drawings of the aliens to Scholastic with her Animorphs proposal. It was these drawings that the alien covers were based on – like this book's Hork-Bajir morph!

Goofs/InconsistenciesEdit

  • When Aldrea is resurrected, she is asked by Quafijinivon, in the presence of the Animorphs, if she knows where her stolen weapons were stashed. Aldrea muses that she does not, since her Ixcila was collected prior to her doing so. The Arn asks her if she could manage to find it, and Aldrea states that she should be figure out where she most likely hid it, and thus the Animorphs head to the Hork-Bajir homeworld. However, once there, Cassie is shocked that Aldrea does not know for sure and informs Jake; Aldrea explains that she has an idea where she likely stored the weapons, but this prompts the Animorphs to be angry towards her, Jake adding that she can no longer be trusted since this information was not made privy to them before the journey, despite the fact that Aldrea had notified them that she did not know for certain.
  • Rachel tells Aldrea that she should have picked her since she possesses more firepower than Cassie with her African elephant and grizzly bear morphs. However, Cassie possesses the elephant morph as well, and while she does not have a grizzly bear morph, she does have the more powerful polar bear morph.
  • Aldrea remarks that her parents and brother were killed by Yeerk Bug fighters using Dracon beams. However, the Yeerks hadn't created Bug fighters or Dracon beams at this point – they used stolen Andalite fighters and Shredders to kill her family.
  • On p105, Aldrea refers to 'Mother Sky' as 'Father Sky' despite correctly calling it 'Mother Sky' and 'Father Deep' when arriving.
  • Toby uses thought-speak on p144.
