The Resistance is the fourty-seventh Animorphs book. It was written by K.A. Applegate and ghostwritten by Ellen Geroux. It is narrated by Jake.

Official Description

The Animorphs and Ax have to make the most important decision they've ever had to make: Do they continue to fight the Yeerks in secret, or is it time to let everyone know there is a resistance? That the Animorphs exist. And that Earth does stand a small chance against the invasion.

Jake knows that either choice is a major one. Not one that some kid should be responsible for. But he's getting tired of the pressure. So, even though he realizes that other Animorphs need him to be strong, he doesn't feel that way. In fact, he feels just the opposite. And Jake knows if he starts to lose it the Animorphs are done...[1]

Jake comes home from an Animorphs meeting during a storm. His mother asks him to clean the basement while she takes Homer to the vet. While cleaning, Jake finds a chest that belonged to his Grandpa G's great great granduncle, Isaiah Fitzhenry. Tom comes home, and Jake talks to him. Tom leaves once again, and Jake hears him say "Preparations." Around 4:00 in the morning, Jake gets a phone call from Cassie asking him to come to the Hork-Bajir valley. When Jake reaches the valley, the other Animorphs have already arrived. Toby explains that one of the free Hork-Bajir had been captured on a raid. Jake attempts to convince everyone to evacuate before the Yeerks arrive, and save a bloodbath, but almost everyone is against him, with the exception of Tobias.

Jake draws a map of the valley in the dirt, saying that they should fight away from the camp. Tobias reports that there is a group of campers in the Yeerks' way. The Animorphs discover a beaver dam, and each acquire a beaver. Jake and Tobias leave the others who are working on the dam so they could flood the valley when the Yeerks attack. They go to the campers and explain that if they didn't leave or fight, they would be infested or die. Most of the campers (who turn out to be Trekkies on an annual trip) come with Jake and Tobias to fight. They are greeted by Toby and a group of other free Hork-Bajir. Toby tells Jake she knew that the campers would help out.

The attack begins when Blue Bands enter the camp, where the Hork-Bajir are hidden in the trees. They almost leave until they spot the free Hork-Bajir. The battle continues when Taxxons and Visser One attack. Tobias is hit by Visser One's morph's tentacle when he tries to attack. Jake takes Tobias' place, biting one of the Visser's necks. Jake is nearly burned to death when the stored water at the beaver dam is released by Ax, who had been stationed there.

After the flood is ended, Jake sees Rachel get to her feet, and Toby's little brother crawls out from under her. Marco and Cassie come to Jake, sporting injuries from fighting. Jake returns home just in time for lunch.[2]

Trivia

  • The cover quote is, "What would you do if you lost your mind ... to a Yeerk?"
  • The inside cover quote is, "Busy as a beaver...."
  • This was the first book not to have a French translation published (translations resume for book 53).
  • ANIBASE: In the present, Jake had to reveal the secret of the Animorphs to a group of Trekkie campers in order to get them to leave their camp site and go to safety. A few of the campers, Richard Carpenter and his kids Lewis and Emily, as well as a mother/daughter duo named Meg and Chloe, decide to stay and help the Hork-Bajir fight the Yeerks, not realizing how real this battle would be.
